Police Thursday sought public help to find a hit-and-run motorist responsible for fatally injuring a pedestrian in Van Nuys.
The 70-year-old victim was struck about 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oxnard Street and Cantaloupe Avenue and died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The Van Nuys resident’s name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
According to the LAPD, a gray Saturn sedan was traveling eastbound on Oxnard Street when it collided with the pedestrian. The driver failed to stop, render aid and identify themselves as required by law, police said.
“The driver was last seen driving eastbound on Oxnard Street with extensive damage to the front of the vehicle,” according to an LAPD statement that said the car’s “side-view mirror and other identifiable vehicle parts” were located at the scene.
No description of the motorist was released.
A standing reward of up to $50,000 is available from the city of Los Angeles for information that helps solve a fatal hit-and-run.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the LAPD Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8022; 877-LAPD-247; or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
