A white peacock that was seen on video being attacked by a postal worker in Pasadena has been relocated and the man suspected of beating the bird was facing an animal cruelty charge Monday.
Nicknamed Sugar, the white pea fowl was attacked on Aug. 18.
The postal worker, Charanjit Singh was charged on Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The Pasadena Humane Society treated Sugar’s injuries and then relocated the bird to Northern California.
“Last week, Sugar the white peacock was transported to his new home, a private ranch in Northern California,” the Pasadena Humane Society wrote on its Instagram account. “As he’s become more familiar with his new space, he’s been enjoying preening in the sun, foraging for bugs, and dipping his feet in his very own kiddie pool. His caretaker reports that he’s even made fast friends with the Pekin ducks who also live on the ranch. We’re glad he’s settling in so well!”
Sugar suffered swelling but no broken bones in the attack, during which the fowl was beaten with a stick or club.
Singh is due in court next month.
