A greater alarm fire broke out Friday evening in a building in downtown Los Angeles, and firefighters had to get out of the building due to “deteriorating conditions.”

The fire was reported about 8 p.m. in a one-story building in the 800 block of South San Julian Street, near Eighth Street, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Nearly 100 firefighters responded to battle the blaze, but by 8:36 p.m., they had to pull out because of the building’s deteriorating conditions, Stewart said.

“Firefighters are opening all exterior accesses to get water inside,” according to Stewart.

No injuries were immediately reported.
