A 29-year-old woman was in custody Thursday morning after a police dog sniffed out about five pounds of heroin and more than 2,000 Oxycodone pills in the woman’s vehicle following a traffic stop in Pomona.

A Pomona Police Department officer and his K9 Tibo were patrolling in the area of Towne Avenue and Mission Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when the officer spotted a vehicle with obvious equipment violations and pulled the vehicle over, according to Sgt. Jon Edson.

Tibo alerted his partner that there were possible narcotics in the vehicle, and a search turned up the drug stash, Edson said.

The officer took Leslie Rivera of Compton into custody, Edson said.

” K9 Tibo’s keen sense of smell prevented these drugs from hitting the streets of Pomona and the surrounding areas,” Edson said. “Tibo is commended for his dedication to … Pomona and his ability to sniff out (and) locate dangerous and illegal narcotics.”
