A beefed-up law enforcement presence in Eastvale over the weekend aimed at deterring intoxicated driving netted no DUI arrests, although five people were cited for various vehicle code violations, authorities said.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies engaged in a “saturation patrol” within the city limits between 8 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday.
During that time, deputes conducted nine vehicle enforcement stops and administered two field sobriety tests.
Deputies were searching for motorists driving under the influence of any impairing substance, not just alcohol. Marijuana can also lead to a DUI, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, according to the department.
In recent years, California has seen an increase in drug-impaired driving crashes, authorities said.
Those arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can spend time in jail and pay up to $13,500, including fines, fees, classes, license suspensions and other expenses.
