The 63-year-old owner of the Quiznos Sub shop in San Dimas was shot and critically injured in a robbery Tuesday.
Deputies were called to 1034 W. Arrow Highway about 3:20 p.m., where they found the restaurant proprietor suffering from a gunshot to the upper body, according to the sheriff’s department.
The suspect approached the cashier’s counter about 3:20 p.m., brandishing a semi-automatic handgun and demanding money. The owner gave him a bag with cash, but then followed the suspect outside where a brief struggle ensued.
The suspect was described as a man in his late 20s, about six feet tall, and weighing about 175 pounds. He was wearing a black cap, black shirt and dark short pants with a plaid pattern.
The store owner, a San Dimas resident, was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
