The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in Riverside County has surpassed 100, increasing by nine people to 107, according to the latest state data out Sunday.
Of those patients, 10 were being treated in intensive care, down from 11 on Saturday.
A comparison of data from the Riverside University Health System shows that over the seven days ending Friday, COVID-19 hospitalizations increased from 91 to 100.
One month ago, 34 people were hospitalized throughout the county with a COVID infection, eight of whom were ICU patients. The ICU patient count has generally remained at or below 10 since the end of March, according to the latest data.
Health officials have noted that many of these patients were admitted to hospitals for other reasons and only discovered they had COVID after a mandated test.
The most recent county Department of Public Health figures available indicated that, among those hospitalized with a COVID diagnosis, 17% had been fully vaccinated with a SARS-CoV-2 therapeutic.
Officials said the aggregate number of COVID cases recorded since the public health documentation period began in March 2020 is 617,062.
The RUHS said a total 6,539 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the past 26 months. A week ago, the figure was 6,538. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to officials.
The number of known active virus cases in the county, based on available data, is 4,191, compared to 4,163 one week ago. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 617,062 — according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are now 606,332.
Riverside County does not report COVID data on weekends.
