Sheriff’s homicide detectives searched Thursday for a gunman and an accomplice blamed for the shooting death of a boy who was spray- painting over gang graffiti in his Compton neighborhood.
Two suspects pulled up in a black sedan about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday and chased the boy north on Largo Avenue, sheriff’s Deputy Amber Smith said. When they caught up with him in the 1600 block of Largo Avenue, the driver fired two rounds through the front passenger side window, fatally striking the victim in the upper body, she said. He died at the scene.
The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification. The sheriff’s department would not immediately release his age.
Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call the Sheriff’s Information Bureau at (213) 229-1700.
The boy’s slaying marked the second shooting death in Compton in three days. A man riding a bicycle Monday evening was shot to death in what investigators believe was a targeted killing.
