A woman sustained major injuries early Wednesday after driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 and crashing near Chiriaco Summit.

The crash was reported at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 10 near Cottonwood Springs Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman was driving the wrong way on the freeway when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the center median, CHP public information officer David Torres told City News Service.

The woman sustained major injuries to her legs and was taken to the Desert Regional Medical Center, Torres told CNS.

Drugs and/or alcohol were suspected factors in the crash, Torres said.
