HBO may have a viral website on its hands, and it’s not promoting a movie. Thanks to John Oliver’s creative imagination, definitelyrealquotes.com may have comedic legs.

Home Box Office registered that domain name Oct. 15 on behalf of the comedian and his staff, whose “Last Week Tonight” show Sunday night poked fun at made-up political quotes.

Oliver noted how Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson used a Thomas Jefferson misquote in a speech last week.

Users click “Try Again” to view nonsense wrongly attributed to historical figures — and sometimes even Oliver himself.

“Does this smell weird to you? I don’t want to eat it if it smells weird” is pegged to Karl Marx, for example.

And Benjamin Franklin (or any of an assortment of others) is quoted as saying: “Most people with genital herpes don’t know they have it.”
