A 20- to 25-year-old man is in critical condition Thursday after he was shot in the abdomen in Chinatown.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 2:05 a.m. to the 900 block of North Hill Street near West College Street where they learned the victim was approached by an unknown assailant, who fired at him several times, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

Fox 11 reported prior to being shot, the victim attempted to get into a local brewery and was turned away. After being shot, he made his way to a gas station, where he called police.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel took the victim to a hospital, where police said he was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses said the suspect drove away from the scene in a green Dodge Charger or Challenger.

The Hill Street offramp from the southbound Arroyo Seco Parkway was closed, along with a section of Hill Street, while an investigation was conducted.

No suspect description was available, and no motive for the shooting was known, police said.
