A ticket with all six numbers in Tuesday evening’s multi-state Mega Millions lottery draw was sold in New Jersey and the player has the option of receiving $1.13 billion, the eighth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot, in 30 graduated annual installments or a lump sum cash payment of $537.5 million before federal taxes.

There were 13 tickets sold with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, including one sold at liquor store in Van Nuys, which is worth $1,058,180, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.

While tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, sold in other states are worth $1 million or a multiple of $1 million, California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis, meaning they are determined by sales and the number of winners.

A ticket with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, sold in New York is worth $2 million because the player utilized the Megaplier option, where for an additional $1 any non-jackpot prize is multiplied by the Megaplier number drawn, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.

The other 11 tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number — two each sold in Florida, Georgia and New York and one each in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio — are each worth $1 million.

The numbers drawn Tuesday were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and the Mega number was 4. It was the 31st drawing since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold on Dec. 8.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number are 1 in 302,575,350, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.

The jackpot was the fifth-largest in the history of the Mega Millions game, which began in 1996 as The Big Game and was given the new name Mega Millions in 2002. There have been three Powerball drawings with larger jackpots.

The Mega Millions game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. Virgin Islands.

The jackpot for Friday’s drawing will be $20 million.
