Paramedics were sent to the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles Tuesday to evaluate eight teenagers for unspecified medical concerns, authorities said.
The problem was reported at about 12:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of West Wilshire Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
First responders were sent to the location regarding “as many as eight young persons … with altered level of consciousness after apparent contact with or ingestion of a yet to be identified product or substance,” said Brian Humphrey of the LAFD.
Humphrey told KNX that the situation was “right in front of” the La Brea Tar Pits, and the LAFD was contacted by a security guard who initially reported that three males were affected. Firefighters found five other patients when they arrived. It was unclear if they were on the Tar Pits property.
All were being transported for hospital examination in unknown condition, according to Humphrey.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were sent to assist the LAFD in the investigation, police said.
