A 31-year-old man was behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of leading Anaheim police on a chase that ended with a deadly crash.

Jose Manuel Linares allegedly refused to pull over for a traffic stop in a pickup early Friday, triggering a police pursuit that ended with the driver crashing into a tree in front of an apartment building near 1200 State College Boulevard, police Sgt. Matt Sutter said.

Linares was initially trapped in the truck but was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Sutter said.

Roberto Carlos Venta-Munoz, 32, of Anaheim, who was in the passenger seat, was killed in the crash, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Department.
