The Indio Police Department assisted Riverside County animal control personnel Friday in rescuing a spider monkey from a property in Indio.
Officers executed a search warrant Friday in the 40000 block of Amador Drive, where they located the primate, according to the Department of Animal Services.
Animal control officials assisted police by carefully transporting the animal to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms.
“An animal service officer contacted a warden with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the warden arranged to have a specialized rescue organization pick up the monkey,” animal control officials said in a statement.
It was unclear how the primate arrived at the property, and there was no description of a possible suspect.
