Due to the unprecedented fire danger, the Angeles National Forest, including the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, will remain closed through next Wednesday.
A temporary closure was initially announced Wednesday afternoon in light of the fire danger and multiple blazes burning in the region. Around noon Thursday, the U.S. Forest Service announced an extension on the closure till the end of Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The closure means people are barred from entering or being in the forest, or being on any National Forest System road or trail. The restrictions are without exception, including people with valid California Campfire Permits.
A violation of the rules can result in a $5,000 fine and/or six months in jail. Anyone causing a wildfire is liable for all costs of suppressing the fire, according ot the Forest Service.
