A Marina del Rey pub known for its longtime turtle races was sued Monday by a patron who alleges he was assaulted and battered by a security guard without provocation last year.

Brandon Stone’s Santa Monica Superior Court lawsuit against Brennan’s also alleges premises liability, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent supervision and hiring and general negligence. Stone seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

A representative for the Lincoln Boulevard bar did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Stone said he was at Brennan’s just after midnight on Dec. 20 when he was attacked by a pub guard.

“Plaintiff recalls waking up on the ground after the assault, but has limited recollection of the events leading to or during the incident,” the suit states.

Stone suffered a nasal fracture, lacerations, a concussion, an injured left thumb and a laceration over his right eyebrow that needed eight sutures, according to the suit. The plaintiff has suffered lost income and emotional distress, the suit states.

Turtle races to benefit charities have been held at Brennan’s for more than 40 years. According to the pub’s website, in 1975 then-Brennan’s owner Ab Lawrence brought “the world’s stupidest sport” to Marina del Rey as a lark, hoping that he could attract a few people for a couple of weeks.

“But the turtles knew how to draw a crowd, so the races kept going,” the website states.
