A 61-year-old woman was fatally struck on Interstate 215 in Riverside, authorities said Friday.
Stephanie Varieur of Riverside was killed shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday on southbound I-215 near Van Buren Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency stated a tractor-trailer or three-wheel motorcycle may have hit the victim in the No. 2 lane, bringing all traffic to an immediate stop.
There was no word regarding why Varieur was on the freeway, and as of Friday morning, details were still being sorted.
Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location within 10 minutes and pronounced her dead at the scene.
CHP officers shut down three of four lanes while a preliminary investigation was conducted.
All lane closures were lifted by 10 p.m.
