A 55-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he lost control of his bike and crash into a parked vehicle in Long Beach, authorities said Sunday.

Officers dispatched at about 5:10 p.m. Saturday to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and 51st Street located the victim in the roadway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

He had been speeding northbound on Long Beach Boulevard when he lost control of a Honda CBR 900 motorcycle and fell to the asphalt prior to striking a parked vehicle. Paramedics rushed the Long Beach resident to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said excessive speed likely contributed to the crash.
