A senior was struck and killed Wednesday while walking along an East Hemet street.
The fatality occurred just after 7 a.m. on Standford Street, near Johnston Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Jonathan Torres said that the 81-year-old victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was walking in traffic lanes for unknown reasons when a Chrysler 300, traveling at an unconfirmed speed, hit her.
The driver, identified only as a 38-year-old Hemet man, immediately stopped.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The motorist wasn’t hurt and was detained for questioning by sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers. However, the party was not arrested.
Torres said that alcohol or drugs don’t appear to be factors in the fatality.
An autopsy was pending on the victim.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Gorgonio CHP office at 951-846-5300.
