An armed suspect who was shot by a group of men was arrested by Long Beach police and an investigation of the shooting is underway Thursday.
The shooting occurred at around 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a teen suffering with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body and Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him to a hospital, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
A preliminary investigation of the shooting revealed the victim was outside where he was approached by a group of men and one of them drew a gun and fired in his direction. The suspects left the scene before police arrived.
Police later learned the victim had a warrant for his arrest and was in possession a firearm, which he hid prior to police arrival, according to police. Officers recovered a gun at the scene and booked the victim in Long Beach City Jail for illegal gun possession.
