A man was fatally shot Tuesday by Huntington Park Police Department officers and an investigation surrounding the circumstances of the shooting is underway Tuesday.

Huntington Park officers were called at 12:26 a.m. Tuesday to the 3400 block East Florence Avenue and Bissell Street, near Salt Lake Park, where the suspect was shot by the officers, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said sheriff’s homicide Lt. Michael Modica.

It was not immediately known what prompted the shooting.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives will assist Huntington Park officers with the investigation of the shooting and no officers were injured during the shooting.
