The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division is investigating a fatal crash Thursday that left a pedestrian dead and tied up traffic for hours.

The crash was reported at 5:22 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of La Tijera and Airport boulevards, near Los Angeles International Airport, police said.

A vehicle that was southbound on La Tijera struck the pedestrian, who was in the road, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Charles Miller.

The county medical examiner’s office reported that the victim was a man in his 40s.

Firefighters responded and pronounced him dead at the scene. His name was being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The driver remained at the scene as required and cooperated with the investigation, Miller said.
