A motorcyclist was killed Sunday when the bike crashed into the back of a crossover SUV on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Tustin.

The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 8:11 p.m. Sunday on the northbound Santa Ana Freeway just south of Jamboree Road.

Witnesses told the CHP the motorcyclist was driving recklessly, swerving in and out of lanes, before crashing into the SUV.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s name, age and gender were not immediately available.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at about 8:35 p.m., shutting down all northbound lanes except the HOV, which was finally shut down when a sedan and a big rig collided trying to merge into the lane. The area was cleared after 10 p.m.
