Police Monday reported an arrest in the shooting death of a 27-year-old man in the Coolidge Park neighborhood of Long Beach amid some kind of family dispute.

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department were called to the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Bort Street around 11:15 p.m. Thursday regarding reports of gunshots and found a man, later identified as Rickie Taylor of Long Beach, suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body, LBPD Lt. Gerrit DeJongh told City News Service.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took Taylor to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives assumed the investigation and identified Sean Richson, 39, of Los Angeles, as the suspected shooter.

“On Aug. 1, 2025, Special Investigations Division detectives located and arrested Richson in the city of Los Angeles,” according to an LBPD statement. “Richson was booked (on suspicion of) murder and his bail was set at $2 million.”

Detectives believe Richson and Taylor were “involved in a family dispute, which escalated into a shooting.”

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call Eric Thai or Chasen Contreras, the homicide detectives working the case, at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips can be supplied through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
