A fire that broke out Monday on the east end of Nuevo scorched about four acres and damaged an outbuilding before being stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported just after 4 p.m. in the 23000 block of Nuevo Road, just east of Menifee Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a rapid rate across open space, the department reported.
An outbuilding in the fire’s path was significantly damaged.
When the flames crossed into a plowed field, they slowed down, enabling firefighters to get in front of the blaze, according to reports from the scene.
The forward rate of spread was stopped at 5:15 p.m. Full containment was expected by 6:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
