Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson was taken into custody in connection with domestic violence and has since posted bail, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday.
Officers responded to the Andersons’ San Fernando Valley residence around 11 a.m. Tuesday, following reports that he allegedly strangled a victim, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment in unknown condition.
Anderson, 53, has since been released on $50,000 bail, police said.
The motive for the alleged attack remains under investigation.
Anderson played for the Falcons from 1994-2001 until a knee injury ended his career.
The former El Camino Real High and Utah standout was rushed for more than 1,000 yards in four seasons, including a career-high 1,846 in 1998, helping lead the Falcons to their first Super Bowl appearance.
Anderson also became known for his signature end zone celebration, the “Dirty Bird,” in which he flapped his arms as if they were wings and rhythmically bounced from side to side.
