A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot outside the Moreno Valley Mall, but no suspects were immediately identified, authorities said Wednesday.
The fatality occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 22000 block of Town Circle Drive, near Campus Parkway, which is in the immediate vicinity of the mall property, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The agency said patrol deputies were sent to the location to investigate reports of a firearm assault and discovered the youth, whose identity was not immediately released, suffering from a gunshot wound.
First responders attempted resuscitative measures, but the victim died at the scene.
The investigation was turned over to the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit, whose detectives were working Wednesday to identify possible assailants and determine a motive.
