Three people were injured Wednesday when a pursuit involving a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy ended in a collision in Palm Desert.
Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop for unspecified reasons shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Monterey Avenue and Frank Sinatra Drive, according to Lt. Deirdre Vickers of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
After the vehicle failed to yield, a pursuit was initiated and continued eastbound. The pursuit ended in the area of Frank Sinatra and Drexell drives when the suspect crashed with a pedestrian working in the center median.
A deputy’s motorcycle also collided with an uninvolved motorist, Vickers said.
Firefighters responded to the scene in the 73700 block of Frank Sinatra Drive, east of 39700 Drexell Drive, where three people were taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The deputy and the pedestrian were in stable condition.
The agency said Frank Sinatra Drive from Drexell Drive to Portola Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions. It was unclear when the road would reopen.
The suspect, whose identity was not released, was taken into custody without incident, Vickers said.
