The three-day California Republican Party convention will begin Friday at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott with a series of committee meetings and workshops and a dinner banquet honoring the party’s women leaders.

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin, the party’s candidate for controller, is scheduled to speak at the banquet, whose master of ceremonies will be State Board of Equalization member Michelle Steel, who is running for a seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, a possible 2016 presidential candidate, is scheduled to speak at Saturday’s luncheon banquet. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, is scheduled to speak at a dinner banquet Saturday.

The convention will conclude Sunday with a general session when the delegates will vote on a series of resolutions.

More than 1,000 delegates and activists are expected to attend.
