A search was continuing Wednesday for the driver of a Maserati that fatally struck a man believed to be in his 80s and his dog while they were walking in Sherman Oaks.

That man and his dog were struck around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in the 4400 block of Woodman Avenue and Moorpark Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said the driver of the Maserati Quattroporte was traveling north on Woodman when the car struck the man and his dog. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The dog died at the scene.

The motorist drove off but abandoned the car nearby and fled on foot, police said. The car, which was impounded by investigators, did not have license plates, according to reports from the scene.

The name of the man who died was not immediately released, pending notification of relatives, but his daughter identified him to ABC7 as Andriy Korshunov.

“My father was a Holocaust survivor,” Ilana Ceitlin told the station. “… He survived the Ukrainian war and then he was killed in a peaceful country.”

Police asked anyone with information about the crash or the driver to come forward. The city of Los Angeles has a standing $50,000 reward on offer for information that leads to a person responsible for a fatal hit-and-run.

“Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.

Anyone with information was urged to contact LAPD Valley Traffic Division Officer Takishita at 818-644-8116 or Officer Reyes at 818-644-8114. Calls during non-business hours should be directed to 877-527-3247. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
