Pasadena Police Department detectives Tuesday are continuing their investigation of the fatal shooting of an alleged armed suspect by one of their officers.
The department received a 911 call at 7:30 p.m. Monday regarding a shooting near the Metro A Line Sierra Madre Villa station, Pasadena Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian told City News Service.
Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and learned the suspect ran from the scene. After a foot pursuit, the officers caught up to the suspect at Electronic Drive and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue, where the suspect was shot and killed by an officer and an officer was wounded, Derderian said.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Derderian said the officer– who she said is a training officer- was taken into surgery shortly after his arrival at a hospital. ABC 7 reported the officer is in critical but stable condition.
A woman who heard the shooting told reporters she had recently moved to the neighborhood. “We never expected this to happen here,” she said.
Derderian said the department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting. “We’re hoping for the best for our officer,” she said.
