An armed barricaded suspect drew a SWAT-style response Wednesday morning to a home in Saugus, where surrounding residences and a nearby elementary school were placed on lockdown, authorities said.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley station were alerted at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday to reports of an armed man who was possibly having a mental health crisis in the 22600 block of Pamplico Drive, according to the department and reports from the scene.

Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau personnel was dispatched to the home along with crisis negotiators in an attempt to bring the matter to a peaceful conclusion.

Neighboring homes and a nearby elementary school were on lockdown.

The suspect surrendered at about 11 a.m., the sheriff’s department reported.
