Authorities continued their investigation Thursday into a two-vehicle collision that resulted in injuries to three adults and three children in Indio.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle collision shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the intersection of Indio Boulevard and Avenue 48, according to the Indio Police Department.

The crash involved a Toyota Sienna and a Ford Fusion that left major damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the Toyota, identified only as an adult woman, was taken to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation. An 11-year-old boy — a rear seat passenger in the Toyota — was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs and was listed in stable condition.

The driver, a female front passenger, a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, who were all inside the Toyota, were taken to a local hospital by ambulance for precautionary evaluation.

The circumstances of the collision were not immediately available.

Police said driving under the influence does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

A temporary road closure at the intersection of Indio Boulevard and Avenue 48 was lifted and reopened shortly before 9 p.m. the same day.

Anyone with additional information on the collision was asked to contact the department’s Traffic Division at 760-391-4057.
