A human skull found at a Long Beach park by a family taking part in an Easter egg hunt was being studied by county coroner’s officials Monday.
The remains, identified as a skull and mandible, were discovered at about 5 p.m. on Easter Sunday at DeForest Park, near Artesia Boulevard and the Long Beach (710) Freeway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner was notified of the discovery by the LBPD Sunday, prompting an investigator to respond to the scene to assess the area in advance of Monday’s recovery efforts, officials said.
The remains were recovered Monday morning in the 100 block of East Osgood Street and taken to the medical examiner’s Forensic Science Center for further examination.
