A new IKEA store will celebrate its grand opening Saturday in Culver City, marking the company’s first Los Angeles-area “city center” location.

The celebration is planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the store, located at 3225 A Helms Ave. in the Helms Design District.

The event will include live music, free coffee, food samples, giveaways and children’s activities, with the first 500 visitors receiving a custom IKEA blue bag.

Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday ahead of the store’s public debut.

The 38,000-square-foot location replaces the former HD Buttercup space and reflects IKEA’s shift toward smaller, urban-format stores designed for easier access in dense cities.

Unlike the company’s traditional large-format stores, the Culver City location features a more open floor plan with model spaces and product displays spread throughout rather than a single guided showroom path.

“Our expansion in the Los Angeles region is a result of customer feedback and demand in the area,” Gustavo Tinajero, IKEA metro area manager, said in an earlier statement. “We know our customers want a more convenient way to access affordable home furnishings, and we are excited that these existing and future locations across the L.A. region will help meet that need.”

Store representatives said the location offers nearly 4,000 products, including more than 3,000 items available for same-day purchase. The store also includes hundreds of space-saving solutions geared toward small and urban living environments.

Larger furniture items will be available for order in-store or online, with options for pickup or delivery, including next-day curbside service, according to the company.

The store also features a market-style shopping area for smaller home goods, rotating seasonal displays and a food and dining area for customers.

Company officials said the Culver City site is part of a broader strategy to expand into smaller retail formats in major metropolitan areas.
