Los Angeles City Council members Bob Blumenfield and Katy Yaroslavsky will lead the city’s 10th annual Jewish American Heritage Month celebration Friday at City Hall, highlighting the theme “Playing It Forward: Championing Jewish Values Through Sport.”

The event will begin with an exhibit unveiling at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Henry P. Rio Bridge Gallery on the third floor of City Hall, followed by a council presentation at 10 a.m. in the John Ferraro Council Chambers.

Organizers said the ceremony will feature athletes, civic leaders and members of the Jewish community, along with an exhibition focusing on the contributions of Jewish athletes and sports figures in Los Angeles and across the nation.

Scheduled participants include actor Eric Braeden, 1972 Olympic fencer Carl Borack, 1984 Olympic gymnast Mitch Gaylord, professional hockey player Chelsey Goldberg and members of the U.S. Open Championship Maccabee LA team.

“As Los Angeles prepares to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the program highlights powerful stories of determination, courage, and resilience — demonstrating how Jewish values continue to inspire leadership, community-building, and excellence in sport,” according to a statement.

The event is part of the city’s annual Jewish American Heritage Month observance.

“This dynamic exhibition and public program celebrates the enduring contributions of Jewish athletes, institutions, and changemakers who have helped shape the landscape of sports in Los Angeles and across the nation,” organizers said.
