A 6-inch gas line and water main were broken when they were struck during construction by Department of Transportation workers and were leaking, prompting lane closures Wednesday evening in Westchester.
DOT crews responded at 9:07 p.m. to 9600 block of Sepulveda Boulevard and 96th Street where they closed the northbound lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard at Imperial Highway and the east and westbound lanes at Sepulveda Boulevard and 96th Street, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
Representatives from The Gas Company are on site, Middleton said. Travel to and from Los Angeles International Airport will be severely impacted, she added.
