Hoping to score points with GOP voters in Indiana, Sen. Ted Cruz instead threw a political air ball Tuesday. He referred to the hoop as a “basketball ring.”

“You know, the amazing thing is that basketball ring here in Indiana, it’s the same height as it is in New York City and every other place in the country,” Cruz said in Knightstown, replicating a scene from “Hoosiers.”

Donald Trump, meanwhile, is hoping for a slam-dunk moment when he appears Wednesday with former Indiana coach Bobby Knight — even though he dissed the Colts by praising Patriots QB Tom Brady.

As the Indianapolis Star reported: “”First of all, let’s start by saying, leave Tom Brady alone! Leave him alone. Leave him alone,” Trump said in Rhode Island. “He’s a great guy. It’s enough, it’s enough.”

Said the IndyStar: “That may not be the kind of statement that will win votes in Colts country.”

Elsewhere in the country, Cruz is getting bruised for hoops ignorance.
