Several nonprofit organizations serving Los Angeles and Orange counties will receive state grants to expand financial literacy and coaching programs for underserved residents, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation announced Tuesday.

The funding is part of more than $3.3 million in CalMoneySmart grants awarded statewide for the 2026-28 grant cycle, according to the department. The program supports community-based organizations that provide financial literacy education, individualized coaching and access to affordable financial products.

The largest awards went to:

— Mission Asset Fund, which serves communities statewide, at $355,000;

— MyPath, serving Los Angeles, Alameda and San Francisco counties, at $346,225;

— Interval House, serving Los Angeles and Orange counties, at $342,225; and

— Koreatown Youth & Community Center, serving Los Angeles County, at $338,125.

Other local recipients included Homeboy Industries, serving Los Angeles County, at $259,328, and Pars Equality Center, serving Los Angeles, Orange and San Francisco counties, at $187,535.

“CalMoneySmart is an important program that helps Californians improve their financial footing and begin building long-term stability for their families, a critical step toward generational well-being,” DFPI Commissioner KC Mohseni said in a statement.

The CalMoneySmart program was established in 2019 to help community-based nonprofits provide free financial education and empowerment services to underserved consumers. Since its inception, the program has served more than 60,000 people through 45 nonprofit organizations, according to the department.

The department said it received a record 307 applications for the 2026-28 grant cycle. The current round represents the final cycle of available CalMoneySmart funding, with the Financial Empowerment Fund expected to be exhausted after the grants are distributed.
