Indio will host its fourth annual Backpack Giveaway to help students prepare for the upcoming school year on Friday in the downtown area.
The family-friendly event will take place from 5-10 p.m. Friday at Towne Street and Bliss Avenue during the city’s weekly Food Truck Fridays.
City officials will give away 1,800 backpacks and school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The donations were provided by community partners, including Costco. Additionally, Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream will provide 1,000 free scoops while supplies last.
“Our Food Truck Fridays event is not only a crowd-favorite event for our community, but this annual backpack giveaway for our students is a great example of what makes Indio so special,” Mayor Elaine Holmes said in a statement.
