A 23-year-old motorcyclist who was killed in a crash in Long Beach was identified by county authorities Monday.
The wreck was reported at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Villa Park, where a motorcycle and an SUV collided, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The motorcyclist, later identified as Juan Lepe, whose place of residence was not released, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The SUV driver was also taken to a hospital and reported to have stable vital signs.
Police say the SUV was making a left turn from Villa Park onto northbound Atlantic on a green light. The Honda motorcycle operator is alleged to have run a red light while heading south on Atlantic when the collision occurred.
“Speed is being investigated as a potential factor in this investigation,” according to a police statement.

They should leave out the name of the deceased and the brand name of the motorcycle. It wasn’t Honda who was at fault running the red light. But the story itself is important to show why rules of the road must be obeyed.
