Huntington Beach police on Tuesday circulated a composite sketch of a man sought for trying to sexually assault a woman in her 20s and stealing her purse.

The crime occurred about midnight Sept. 10 near Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue as the victim was walking home from work, according to Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitch O’Brien, who said she managed to fend off the suspect.

Investigators withheld details on the nature of the attempted sexual assault, O’Brien said.

The suspect is described as a 26- to 32-year-old Latino with a thin build, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with short, black hair and a mustache. He was wearing blue jeans, a baggy white T-shirt and a white baseball cap.

Anyone with information about his identity or whereabouts was asked to call police at (714) 375-5066. Anonymous tips may be made by calling Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
