A vehicle was engulfed in flames after it overturned Friday on Interstate 10 near Desert Center, prompting westbound lanes to be temporarily shut down.

The crash was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Friday east of Red Cloud Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that arriving crews encountered a single-vehicle involved in fire. It was unknown if any injuries were reported.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, a black mid-size sedan was apparently traveling eastbound at high speeds — more than 100 mph prior to the rollover — and swerved, then flipped toward the westbound side, landing on its roof.

As of 1:33 p.m., westbound lanes were temporarily closed.
