Two people were killed in a collision Friday when a vehicle struck a tree in Encino.
A white Honda Civic struck a tree around 2 a.m. Friday near Balboa and Burbank boulevards, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.
Paramedics dispatched to the location pronounced two people dead at the scene, said Jennifer Middleton of the Los Angeles Fire Department. No further details on their identities were immediately available.
Victor Cruz, a witness to the collision, told a videographer at the scene that he saw the vehicle drive around a curve at around 60 miles per hour before driving off the road and colliding with the tree. Cruz said he attempted to help the people in the car and saw the collision caused the engine to move onto the passenger seat.
Video from the scene showed the vehicle nearly broken in half with both sides of the car on either side of the tree.
Authorities have not yet confirmed details on the collision nor a cause of death.
