Animation, comic book heroes and action thrillers are the most popular offerings this summer weekend at the nation’s movie theaters.

Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” debuted with $45.4 million in expected sales this weekend in the United States and Canada.

” A stellar debut,” concluded movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore.

“Ant-Man And The Wasp” was in second place, with $28.8 million, another solid score for Disney/Marvel. Add in receipts from last week and from around the world, and the latest superhero epic will have earned $132.8 thropugh close of business Sunday evening, according to studio estimates.

“Skyscraper,” the new Dwayne Johnson thriller from Universal, premiered in third place with $25.5 million in domestic sales.

Rounding out the 10 most popular films in North America, as estimated by the studios and collated by comScore, were “The Incredibles 2” ($16.2 million), “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” ($15.5 million), “The First Purge” ($9.1 million), “Sorry To Bother You” ($4.3 million), “Sicario: Day Of The Soldado” ($3.9 million), “Uncle Drew” ($3.2 million) and “Ocean’s 8” ($2.9 million).
