Two 18-year-old mountain bikers who spent the night in the San Gabriel Mountains were rescued by firefighters and volunteer search and rescue teams on Monday.

The two men had planned a mountain biking trip from Mt. Wilson to Altadena at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Instead, as darkness fell, they lost sight of the trail and became lost, according to the sheriff’s department.

Rescuers were sent to the area of Farnsworth Park, near the 500 block of East Mount Curve Avenue, about 7:40 a.m., a sheriff’s department official said.

The mountain bikers were found within about an hour and brought to safety by a helicopter, a sheriff’s deputy said. Both were “a little chilly” but otherwise unharmed, the deputy said.

Temperatures were in the mid-40s when they were rescued. One man had on a sleeveless shirt.
