The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts announced Friday that veteran arts administrator Jean Davidson has been named its new executive director and chief executive officer.

Davidson most recently served as executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., a role she held since 2023. She previously served as president and CEO of the Los Angeles Master Chorale from 2015 to 2023.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jean Davidson as the new executive director and CEO of the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts,” Daphna Nazarian, chair of the Wallis board of directors, said in a statement. “She brings exceptional vision, strategic insight and a distinguished record of leadership that will elevate our organization and strengthen our community.”

During her tenure at the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Davidson introduced an international touring model, oversaw major recordings and guided the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic while securing more than $2 million in federal and local support, according to the organization.

At the National Symphony Orchestra, officials said Davidson helped restore international touring, expanded community and education programs and led an endowment campaign that secured $25 million in gifts and pledges.

“The arts are where a community sees itself, and where it imagines what’s possible next,” Davidson said. “I’m honored to join the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Arts at this pivotal moment. Together, we will build on its strong artistic foundation, attract world-class talent and ensure that The Wallis remains a premier destination for exceptional and inspiring work.”

Davidson succeeds Robert van Leer, who recently left the position to become performing arts program director at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Christine Bernardi Weil is currently serving as interim managing director.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts opened in 2013 in the former Beverly Hills Post Office building.

Davidson is scheduled to assume the role May 4.
