A major construction milestone was reached Tuesday in a $115 million project that will make it easier for passengers catching connecting flights at Los Angeles International Airport.
The final steel beam — decorated with an evergreen tree and the American flag — was placed on top of the under-construction Terminal 4 Connector facility during a “topping-out” ceremony to celebrate progress on the project.
The multi-story facility being built by Turner Construction Co. is expected to improve the connection between terminals on the airport’s south side and allow passengers to move more easily between the Tom Bradley International Terminal and Terminal 4.
“This project will greatly improve the traveling experience for passengers making a domestic or international connection between terminals,” said Roger Johnson, Los Angeles World Airports’ deputy executive director for airport development.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the progress,” he said. “Thanks to the hard work and talents of this project team, we truly are building an LAX of the future.”
The building will include new baggage inspection and transfer facilities, a bus port and a five-lane security checkpoint area.
The project is expected to be completed next year.
