The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County hasn’t been changing much lately, but it’s still pretty good when you realize it’s a dollar cheaper than a year ago.
The average price rose two-tenths of a cent Friday to $2.838 after being unchanged for each of the previous two days.
The average price is six-tenths of a cent more than one week ago but 2.2 cents less than one month ago. But that’s 99.2 cents – about a dollar – cheaper than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The Orange County average price was unchanged, remaining at $2.814, one day after dropping two-tenths of a cent. It is three-tenths of a cent more than one week ago but 2.7 cents less than one month ago and 95.4 cents lower than one year ago.
“Last week’s news that the Torrance ExxonMobil refinery can currently operate at only 75 percent capacity has so far had little impact on gas prices, other than perhaps failing to provide a downward push,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
“The refinery must reportedly repair or purchase a piece of equipment before it can operate at full capacity and its planned sale to PBF Refining can be completed.
